FACTORS THAT HAVE INFLUENCE ON THE UTILIZATION OF INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS AND TECHNIQUES
This research has been done in order to determine factors that have influence on the utilization of instructional methods and techniques which are used in teaching applications by teacher candidates. Determining the methods and techniques that are used in teaching applications is very important to improve the quality of teacher education. The subjects of this study consisted of 110 teacher candidates reading at 5th grade in the Master of Science Without Thesis Programme in the Department of Secondary Science and Mathematics Education under Karadeniz Technical University Faculty of Education existing in Black Sea Region at spring semester of 2003-2004 academic year. As datas gathering instruments, a scaled likert type quastionnaire and semi-structured interview questions charts were used. The study is conducted in two stages using case study method. First, interview questions have been replied by ten physics teacher candidates. Second, questionnaires have been asked to a sample group of physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics teacher candidates. Results show that teacher candidates are influenced by the limited time, the intensity of instruction program, the material conditions and the class population while the teacher candidates select the methods and the techniques in teaching applications. The abilities of using instructional methods and techniques of teacher candidates must be improved by the courses in Faculty of Education.
