Abstract


In this paper, residual and regional gravity anomalies of Eastern Mediterrenean Region lengthwise are separated using wavelet method. The tectonic evolution of the Eastern Mediterranean region is dominated by effects of subduction along the Hellenic (Aegean) arc and of continental collision in eastern Turkey (Anatolia) and the Caucasus. Northward subduction of the African plate beneath western Turkey and the Aegean region is causing extension of the continental crust in the overlying Aegean extensional province. Eastern Turkey is instead experiencing crustal shortening and thickening due to northward motion of the Arabian plate relative to Eurasia. Wavelet is one of the modern, stochastic image approaches processing technique in electronics. The vertical, horizontal and diagonal components of wavelet output are evaluated simultaneously and an underground model is obtained by suitable cross-sections.
